How to be successful in your compensation claim

Making a successful car accident compensation claim can be tricky; however by following a few steps you can improve your chance of winning.

After the accident has taken place and you’ve realised you could claim compensation, see a medical physician as soon as possible. Having a full and comprehensive doctor’s evaluation could mean the difference between success and failure. Whether it’s a purely physical injury, or psychological, having confirmation from a qualified medical specialist is crucial.

Ensure you keep any evidence pertaining to any lost-work periods; such as doctors’ notes, confirmation from your employer of your leave and paperwork confirming how much you would have earned, had you been working. This will make it much easier for those dealing with your claim to see how much you’ve lost as a result of the accident.

Also, any medical expenses can be claimed for, so ensure you keep any documentation pertaining to them as well.

Evidence from the scene of the crime is of course essential, as it can prove who did what, and do wonders for bolstering your case. Take photographs of every single aspect of the cars involved, and of your own injuries – if you have any. Names, addresses and statements of any witnesses is another key piece of evidence, so be sure to gather those, too.

Get this information from the witness as soon as possible, as their memories can become cloudy a few days after the accident. This may lead to them not remembering, or providing false information – an offence in a court of law.

Car accidents are extremely stressful and although you might get away with only a few cuts and scrapes, you could be scarred psychologically. If it wasn’t your fault, you probably deserve compensation, so do yourself a favour and get your claim in as soon as possible – it could really make a difference to your quality of life.
